What Is IPv5 Protocol? All That You Need To Know
The internet as you know was only being developed in 1970. Many new internet protocols were being designed since then. These protocols were aimed at setting guidelines for internet usage. Also, to preside over how data packets having tons of data can be sent over a network. Many internet protocols like IPv4 and IPv6 were developed and made available. In the middle of these protocols, another internet protocol, namely IPv5 was developed. But, it was not released for public use. What happened to the IPv5 protocol? Read along to know.
IPv5 Protocol
There are many genuine reasons for not adopting IPv5 as an internet protocol. Before looking into the reasons for the non-adoption of IPv5, let us see what IPv5 is. Internet Protocol version 5 is the fifth version of the Internet Protocol. It was aimed at streaming video and data. The IPv5 protocol was collectively developed by NeXT, Sun Microsystems, and Apple. The development was on an experimental basis. But before IPv5 could be released to the public domain, IPv6 was released. The latest version of the internet protocol offered numerous IP addresses. It also thereby ensured a new beginning to the protocol.
Why Is IPv5 Not Available?
Before the introduction of IPv5, there was IPv4. IPv4 addresses made use of 32 bit addressing. It was able to accommodate only 4.3 billion addresses. But, more and more people started to use the internet at a growing pace. As a result, the IPv4 addresses were exhausted.
The protocol also makes use of 32 bit addressing. So the businesses felt that it would limit the capacity to generate IPv5 addresses. Therefore, they decided against adopting IPv5 as a standard protocol. The abandonment of IPv5 discouraged many from using IPv5. Today, we may see companies trying to sell IPv4 addresses in the market. But, not any trying to sell IPv5 addresses.
The version 5 protocol never came into existence apart from some experimental usages. It was called Internet Stream Protocol in the beginning. The same was mainly used to stream video and audio. Before abandoning the protocol, IPv5 was tested comprehensively and different backbones were built for the protocol. In addition, the protocol was released on various operating systems. Mainly to check whether it was compatible with these operating systems. The only problem with the protocol was that it was unable to generate enough IPv5 addresses, as it made use of 32-bit addressing. Other than that, the protocol was much more superior to the IPv4 protocol.
This is what IPv5 addresses are all about. IPv4 addresses are still available and you an get one through us if needed Contact Us.
