IP Address Blacklisting – All That You Need To Know
As the name suggests IP address blacklisting is the process of grouping a list of IP addresses as untrustworthy. Oftentimes, IP addresses are blacklisted to ensure smooth functioning over email servers. If IP address blacklisting was not in practice, our email inboxes will be full of spam messages. The ones that have irrelevant and malicious content. Some of the spam messages can be very harmful as they can include malware that can retrieve sensitive details from the computer. Therefore, IP address blacklisting is an important activity to avoid chaos.
How IP Address Blacklisting Happen?
Different databases set different criteria to blacklist an IP address. Suspicious behavior noticed on the IP address can be the main reason for the blacklisting. There can also be technical issues leading to IP address blacklisting. These include incorrect or missing DNS records, non-operational mail servers, incorrect or missing banner greetings, etc. At times, IP addresses and servers may get blacklisted due to various errors. If your IPv4 addresses are wrongfully blacklisted, you can follow the below steps to fix the addresses.
Before Fixing Blacklisted IP Addresses
You can resolve it in a few steps if your IP address is wrongly blacklisted. The simplest way to fix a blacklisted address is to visit the site and understand the reason for the blacklisting. After understanding the reason you may search online and find the steps to fix the blacklisting. Keep in mind that the steps can vary with the reason for blacklisting.
If the simple way is not working for you, do not worry. You can opt for other ways. Before doing these steps, you need to ensure that your mail server and networks are configured properly. Any configuration errors can also result in blacklisting. It may also not allow you to fix the issue. Therefore, make sure that all of the DNS records, together with the SMTP banners follow a sequence. Furthermore, make certain that your device is free from malware or virus infection. If there is an infection, get rid of the same before fixing the IP issue. Moreover, make sure to fix any needed patches and securely configure the routers before trying the fix the blacklisted IP address.
After identifying the blacklisting websites, try to find out the reason for the blacklisting and fix it. After rectifying the issue, contact the blacklist operator regarding removing the IP address from the list. If everything is ok, your IP address will be removed from the list.
