IPv4 – Why It’s Still The Number One Choice
Despite the availability of IPv6, IPv4 still remains the preferred choice of internet protocol in the industry. Currently, billions of devices are utilizing this version to access the complex virtual world. There is scarcity in the market. The demand is extremely high, while the supply is low. Since the number of internet users is increasing, so is this demand. As a result, in the very near future a point will come when the number of available IPv4 addresses will run out and migration to the new protocol – IPv6 – would become a necessity.
As of right now, IPv4 addresses are the number one choice for users all over the world. There are a number of reasons for that.
Supported By Existing Infrastructure
One of the major reasons IPv4 is still preferred over IPv6 is that the existing infrastructure supports IPv4. Migration to IPv6 would require redesigning of networks for better compatibility and optimum efficiency.
Easier To Remember
IPv4 addresses are 32 bits long, divided into 4 octets of 8 bits each. This makes these addresses easier to remember as compared to the 128 bit long IPv6 addresses.
Fast Flow Of Data
According to statistics, hundreds of terabytes of data are transferred over the internet in a single minute. Since the number of internet users is increasing, so is the amount of data that is transferred back and forth among connected devices. IPv4 model allows fast flow of data, while ensuring security. Networks, in this case, mostly use TCP and UDP to enhance the efficiency of the process.
Encryption And Security
Data transferred over the internet is vulnerable to external threats. Therefore, it is essential to encrypt data before transmitting it over the network. IPv4 offers reliable data encryption that in turn enhances security of valuable information.
It is Scalable And Efficient
Since addressing in the case of IPv4 is aggregated more effectively, routing becomes scalable and efficient.
It Simply Forms The Structure Of the Internet
Currently, there are more than 85,000 functional routers that compose the infrastructure of the internet. Dependent on flat and hierarchical routing, this infrastructure serves as a backbone of the entire internet system. This routing allows efficient connectivity among devices located all across the globe without the need for NAT.
Here at IPv4 Mall, we strive hard to provide our clients quality IPv4 brokerage services. If you are looking to buy, sell or lease IPv4 address space, contact us.
